Antique Restoration

The true process of restoration and conservation should not be confused with refinishing. The definition of restoration is to bring back to a former or original condition; to reconstruct or repair something so to restore it to its original or former state. In some cases the pieces of furniture are in such a state of disrepair, a new finish is required. In these situations, much care is taken to replicate the original finish.

Restoration can be performed on objects of any age. If original or prior condition is the goal, restoration is the term of the process used to achieve that goal.

Traditional Refinishing

Minor damage to the finish such as small dents, scratches, water marks and cigarette burns can usually be repaired without refinishing the piece. Although in many cases the old finish will have deteriorated to a point where it must be removed and replaced.  Serious damage to wooden surfaces sometimes requires scraping and sanding back to bare wood which again necessitates refinishing. We provide hand stripping or flow tray method we do not drip furniture. The hand and flow tray methods will not harm the glue or joints.

French polish

This is a finish commonly found on antique furniture. It is often mistakenly referred to as a substance to be applied to wood, but in actuality is a method of applying shellac to a woodworking project that produces a tough surface with a very glossy, mirror-like finish. This "lost art" produces a luster that is next to impossible to duplicate with mass-production methods.
